Course on Matrices is a multimedia educational course, thematically divided into 9 Lessons. The first Lesson is devoted to basic operations on matrices, the second-to-last one focuses on Gaussian elimination for solving systems of linear equations, and the last one covers eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
The course includes a total of about 290 minutes of video recordings, in which I slowly and from the very basics explain and show how to solve problems.
The recordings are accompanied by 70 test questions that check your knowledge and about 100 selected practical exercises.
In this course, I share knowledge gathered over many years of intensive teaching of matrices to students from various universities. You will learn, among other things:
- what the biggest risk is when performing matrix computations and how to deal with it
- how to write out operations such as matrix multiplication in a convenient way, without having to keep many calculations in your head
- how to zero a row or column (using an elementary operation), which radically shortens and simplifies, for example, calculating determinants of 4x4 and higher-order matrices
- how to quickly compute the inverse of a matrix by writing the algebraic cofactors directly into the resulting matrix
- how to compute even complex matrix equations smoothly — by analogy to the numerical equations you already know well from elementary school
- why computing the rank of a matrix by “zeroing” a row or column has a major advantage over the tedious search for proportional rows and columns
- what matrices and vectors have in common and what you actually gain from it
- why Gaussian elimination is the best method for solving systems of linear equations
…and many, many other practical, tested “tricks” which, in addition to a solid 4+ hour elementary foundation, may even help you surprise yourself during a quiz or an exam on matrices.
